When Jason Scroggs, Training Program Manager at Fleet Feet Cincinnati, signed up to be a SoleMate for Girls on the Run Greater Cincinnati, he wasn’t just lacing up his sneakers—he was stepping into a role that reflected his values as both a runner and a father. As a proud girl dad, Jason saw an opportunity to support a program that aligns with what he wants most for his daughter and her peers: confidence, strength, and the courage to challenge limits.
“I wanted to become a SoleMate to contribute to encouraging young ladies to find their power and challenge themselves so they can see they are capable of hard things,” he says. That mission—to show girls what they’re made of—has fueled his training and his purpose.
Jason’s first training event as a SoleMate was the Flying Pig earlier this spring, and he plans to continue his fundraiser while training for more races throughout the year. Completing these events is a personal goal, but running as a SoleMate adds a whole new layer of meaning. For him, it’s not just about finishing a race—it’s about the energy, determination, and joy he sees on the faces of Girls on the Run participants on 5K day. “Seeing the smiles of the girls and the dedication of the coaches on race day fills me with energy and encouragement for the future,” he shares.
As a dad, Jason knows how important it is for young girls to see and believe in their own potential. His message to GOTR participants is heartfelt and empowering:
“No one sets your limits but you. The only thing that can stop you from striving and thriving is your own self-doubt. Never doubt yourself. Even though every day may not be a win, it's an opportunity to learn and grow.”
Jason is one of the few male SoleMates supporting GOTR Greater Cincinnati and hopes more men will feel inspired to get involved. Serving as a SoleMate is a powerful way to show girls that positive, encouraging male role models are out there—cheering them on, believing in their potential, and walking (or running!) alongside them. It's also a meaningful opportunity for men to model kindness, respect, and support, helping create a community where every girl feels seen, safe, and empowered.
For Jason, being a SoleMate is more than a title—it’s a commitment to showing up, speaking up, and lifting others up. "I'm so grateful for the opportunity to contribute and support GOTR and will continue to strive to bring positivity and energy in any way I can to the GOTR Army and team."
In his words and his footsteps, Jason is helping to build a future where girls know their strength—and see it reflected back in the world around them.
